“As your doula I support and encourage dad’s and partners during the pregnancy birth process as well as postnatally. Giving an active role in the birth space, emotional support, rest and encouraging bonding opportunities with the new baby”

During the birth, we can encourage the dad or partner to use comfort techniques on the birthing mum and offer some relief by stepping in when they need a break (fresh air, eat, sleep, PEE!)

Having a doula allows partners to be able to fully support the birthing mum emotionally during labor. By being fully present with her and enjoying the experience; a doula removes the any pressure on partners/dad’s of trying to remember everything learned in your antenatal classes.

I bring a calming and positive presence to my visits postnatally and involve the partner in conversations on how things have been going – it’s small things like this that allow them to play a role in parenting and not feel pushed out of the experience

What was /or is going to be important to your partner during the birth or in the early weeks of parenthood?
